Etats-Unis : Foley Family Wines rachète Ramal East Vineyard (Sonoma)

Foley Family Wines, a California-based producer, marketer and distributor of wines, has purchased the Ramal East Vineyard for an undisclosed amount.
The purchase includes around 206 acres of vineyards planted mainly with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varietals.

Located in the Carneros appellation of Sonoma County, the vineyard will be used by Foley Family Wines to support its Chalk Hill brand, which is set to launch new Sonoma Coast line of wines in 2013. Along with the Chalk Hill wines, the winery will also roll out a small amount of the 2011 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay for limited period.

By 2012 and 2013, the company plans to increase the production capacity of Chardonnay and introduce Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir with the 2013 vintage.

Foley Family Wines proprietor Bill Foley said with the launch of the new Sonoma Coast tier they needed to make sure the winemaking team had access to a consistent supply of high-quality fruit.

"When the opportunity arose to purchase a first-rate vineyard in Carneros we jumped at the prospect. This great piece of land will provide Chalk Hill with enough Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to support the growth we have projected for this new tier of wines," Foley added.

A bankruptcy judge in Alsace has approved the sale of Domaine Lucien Albrecht’s brand and five hectares vineyards to local cooperative Wolfberger. Eguisheim-based Wolfberger, which also produces the Willm brand, beat Grands Chais de France, to the deal.

Many were shocked when Domaine Lucien Albrecht went into receivership earlier this month, with reported debt of €9m. It was the second biggest exporter of Alsace wines to the US by volume.

According to Wolfberger export director Eric Alonso, Wolfberger paid €500,000 for the brand and €700,000 for the vineyards. The sale does not include buildings or equipment.
